Why did you choose the insurance industry?
I didn’t really choose the insurance industry. I happen to get a job through a government program working at a brokerage as a receptionist/administrator. Three years later I got my license and I have never really left the industry since.

What have you done in your career so far?
In my career so far I have gone from receptionist, to broker, to executive administrator, to office manager. I left my position in Ontario as Broker to move to Victoria, BC. I was hired by a large credit union as Executive Administrator working with the president of insurance as well as in the commercial insurance department. Four years later I left that position to move again, this time to Courtenay BC. Having used ILScorp for credits I knew of the company and was pleasantly surprised to find that they were located in Courtenay. When I arrived in Courtenay, ILScorp had a posting in the newspaper for a bookkeeper. It was a long shot since I didn’t have any direct accounting experience but I applied and got the position; just over a year later I was made office manager. I have now been here for four and a half years.

What do you do in a typical working day?
On a typical working day I work in several different areas. I manage the accounting, work with staff on day-to-day issues, customer support, plan campaigns and help with our communication pieces. While there are scheduled tasks which reoccur there is a lot of variety as well and no two days are the same.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the variety and opportunities to learn and grow that this position and the insurance industry has provided me. I also enjoy the people; both staff and clients I work with on a daily basis.
