Scholarship Review Committee
The duty of the Canadian Insurance Scholarship Review Committee is to review applications for scholarships and make awards to applicants who meet the established criteria.
TODD HOCHBAN
Todd began his insurance career in 1977. He has been a commercial lines underwriter, broker and has been training brokers full time since 1989. Todd served 10 years as education director with a provincial broker’s association. During that tenure he participated on many national committees and was involved with the development of many national educational programs. As President of West Coast Training Ltd., Todd instructs over 100 classroom days per year and speaks at many conferences and conventions.

NEIL McGREGOR B Admin, FCIP

Born and raised in Regina, Neil got his first job during the summer prior to Grade 9 (1965) working as the “Office Boy” at L E Yingst Co Ltd. That continued as an after school and summer job throughout high school and for most the summers while attending the University of Regina from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Administration degree in 2003. During that year, Neil continued with L E Yingst in a full time capacity as the Office Manager. Neil became Manager of the firm in 1991 and continued in that role until 2004 when the business was sold to Grain Insurance and Guarantee.
In 1973 Neil entered the Insurance Institute program completing the Fellowship program in 1979. Neil also became involved with the local Insurance Institute council and served as Chapter President from 1979 to 1981. He has instructed evening classes and participated in two ad hoc committees for the Institute dealing with specific initiatives.
The YMCA became the focus for Volunteer activity and Neil served on the local Board of Directors for 20 years and was elected President for the period from 1987 to 1989. He was a part of several committees and organizing groups and has continued to instruct fitness and Karate classes to this date at the Y. Neil has also coached several minor sports teams and was a minor hockey referee for several years.
Since 2004, he has been the Regional Branch Manager for Grain Insurance and Guarantee Company in Regina. Current hobbies include making sawdust in the workshop occasionally turning out pieces of furniture and bowls as a by product, spending time at his summer cottage and remaining fit and active.
RENATE M. MUELLER, CA
Current President and owner of AMAC Consultants Inc., a Vancouver headquartered firm that specializes in Mergers and Acquisitions and Executive Search services for the insurance industry.
As a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of B.C. since 1975, Renate spent seven years in public practice and eight years in forensic accounting for the Federal Government. She was also a former owner of M.G. MacGregor Insurance Agencies Ltd., a B.C. brokerage that specialized in commercial and group association business.
Renate served as President of the Insurance Brokers Association of B.C from 2001-2002, and was also involved in writing and teaching licensing seminar courses for the IBABC. From 1998-2000, she was a director of the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada. She served as a director of Edelweiss Credit Union for 13 years as well as Chairman for two years and a director for four years of the CUMIS Group of Companies that owned Canadian Northern Shield Insurance Company.
Renate was also Director of the Travel Assurance Board of B.C. and had sat on a review committee for the travel industry. Renate was appointed to the audit committee of the Greater Vancouver Real Estate Board in 2001 and still sits on that committee. Recently Renate joined the finance committee of Shaughnessy Golf Club.
In 2006 Renate was recognized by her peers when the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC awarded her with the Community Service Award. Renate is also very involved with Big Sisters of the Lower Mainland, for which she started and chaired an annual charity golf tournament in the Lower Mainland. The tournament has raised approximately $500,000.00 for the Charity. Renate is also a Director of Parkinson’s Society of B.C. and served for one year on its charity golf committee.

SHELLEY RIDGEWELL
Shelley wrote her Fundamentals of Insurance in 1993, after studying Arts and Economics at the University of Regina. She worked at a brokerage on Vancouver Island for 2 years, completing her Level 2 licensing, before leaving the insurance industry to study Massage Therapy in Vancouver.
After graduating from college, she moved to England where she worked as a physical therapist for 2 years. In London Shelley made a career change and was employed with Micromuse/IBM, Deloitte Consulting, and the England National Rugby Team.
After returning to Canada in 2005, Shelley returned to the insurance industry as a Project Manager at ILScorp. She currently is the Program Coordinator for the Canadian Insurance Scholarship Program.
Shelley has been a volunteer for the Canada Winter Games (BC), Future Hope School (Calcutta), Mentor for the Boys and Girls Club, Director of Comox Valley Community Foundation, Strathcona Rotary member and continues to be involved with other community-based activities.
