Support Canadian students and the insurance industry.  Details on how you can make a difference.

Right now, the property and casualty insurance industry employs over 100,000 people in Canada. With an average workforce age over 40 (and higher in key occupations such as broker and adjuster) the industry faces a shortage of qualified employees. According to the insurance Bureau of Canada 25% of the workforce will be lost to retirement alone by 2017.

SponsorsEven today, the demand for brokers and agents remains high despite the economic conditions but there are already problems recruiting new employees.  Graduates are not exploring insurance as a possible career choice, unless they know someone in the industry. We are all aware that over the next 20 years our office workforce will change dramatically and recognize how vital it will be to attract new talent in the insurance sector.

So let’s do something about it and keep these statistics from becoming a reality.  Make a donation!

As you may know, ILScorp has been a leader in insurance education for over 25 years. Over 22,000 insurance professionals currently access our continuing education and licensing courses online each year, and our news channel, ILSTV.com, keeps brokers across the country updated on current events, company profiles and other industry information on a day-to-day basis.

We know how important it is for insurance education in all aspects (licensing, continuing education, product knowledge). We are encouraging our friends and colleagues in the insurance industry to join us in supporting an exceptional opportunity to take a positive step toward reversing the decline in number of insurance professionals in our workforce and giving back to the industry.

I am referring to The Canadian Insurance Scholarship Program, established by ILScorp earlier this year. Working together with high school teachers and career guidance counsellors across the country, The Program supports high school students interested in pursuing careers in insurance.

ILScorp is partnering with other industry companies and brokerages, like yours, in providing resources for Canadian students to show them that the insurance industry is a dynamic, exciting and challenging career. The Program will also help them develop the skills they need to be successful in their insurance career, keep them competitive, and fully prepare them as licensed employees in the workplace.

Eligible students, who meet The Program’s criteria process facilitated by their high school teacher(s), are awarded scholarships which cover the costs for an online preparation licensing course (Level 1) with ILScorp, as well as their provincial exam fee.  The students then become valuable contributors to the industry, and possibly even employees in your office!

Each year, we hope to award as many as 500 company-sponsored scholarships to high school graduates across the country who would like to join us in the insurance industry. Over 8 years, this could mean an additional 4000 qualified insurance personnel in the workforce!

I hope you will join us in this effort by making a donation to The World of Opportunities Program.  These scholarships would be the first of their kind in Canada, and a chance for your company to take initiative in giving back to the schools and community, while strengthening our industry.

Here is an example of the impact of your donation.
$450 - donation will provide scholarship for 1 graduate student
Includes online preparation licensing course (Level 1) and provincial exam fee.
Also includes “Insurance as a Career” resources for high schools across Canada.

Education and career awareness is a critical long-term investment for our industry. By partnering with us, you will be making a difference.

You can donate online using our secure online services. If you would like more information about the program or ILScorp, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you for supporting the Canadian Insurance Scholarship Program.
