A Brief History
1991:
ILS Learning Corporation was officially incorporated in Saskatchewan. With Steve and Laurie Hawrishok at its helm, ILScorp tackled its first project: writing a truly Canadian course that would lead to a Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) designation.
1993:
ILScorp moved to British Columbia and set up shop in Courtenay, a growing community on Vancouver Island. Steve Hawrishok began teaching CAIB immersion - the first immersion for CAIB in Canada - at the University of British Columbia. He also traveled across western Canada to deliver live continuing education seminars to brokers and other industry professionals.
1999:
Always cognizant of the world around them, the ILScorp team decided to join the internet and take their continuing education courses online. ILScorp was the first independent Canadian insurance educator to offer both licensing and continuing education courses to the insurance industry via the internet. As pioneers in the online education world, ILScorp soon saw many changes. Staff grew from two to a full-time staff of seven, plus contract workers. ILScorp didn't just get with the times, it defined them!
On Track, a hard copy newsletter was developed by ILScorp and mailed to brokers and insurance professionals across the country.
2000:
March 1, ILScorp launches first e-Learning centre online!
2005:
With a subscriber base of over 15,000, ILScorp continues to grow. With continued and great support from its customers, ILScorp was forced to move from their small office to a new building.
2007:
Launch of new Learning Management System!
ILScorp was the first online education company in North America to offer video courses for Insurance company policy manuals (SGI Canada). These courses are offered free to our General Insurance subscribers.
2008:
Launch of new website re-design!
Launch of new ILSTV, an innovative video 'channel' on ilscorp.com to highlight latest industry news and hot topics.
Our President
Online course delivery was a natural progression for ILScorp. Since the 80’s, our company President, Steve Hawrishok, has been delivering licensing and continuing education course to insurance brokers and agents in Western Canada, Most of the technical courses online today at www.ilscorp.com are written and or edited in part by Steve and he is usually personally involved in the development of any new courses at ILScorp.
Writing licensing and continuing education courses is not a new task for our President. He holds the distinction of having authored the Fundamentals of Insurance licensing program for the general insurance industry. This is the course all recipients of the Canadian Insurance Scholarship Program will be studying.
As well, he was contracted by the Canadian Insurance Brokers Association to write a comprehensive professional designation program, known as the Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker Program (CAIB). This program continues to be used in all Canadian provinces (except Quebec) as a step licensing program for insurance brokers.
The success of our online insurance continuing education courses soon brought requests from other industries to produce online courses. We currently host online accreditation courses for hospitals and medical professionals as well as real estate. In addition Steve has, by request, written a number of privacy training courses regarding PIPA and PIPEDA which are available online. In 2008, he authored a 3-part Ethics for Insurance Professionals Program, a program he believes was long overdue for the industry.
Before forming ILScorp. Steve held a number of management and executive positions including high school teacher and principal, executive director of a major provincial trade association, and owner/operator of an insurance and real estate brokerage.
